Destination guide: Avoriaz, France
Avoriaz is France’s one the best-designed resort famous for skiing. One of the most important thing that we need to know about this resort is that it is sunny, however the slopes in the local area are quite shady. Avoriaz is a purposely built resort constructed on a big shelf placed above quite a high cliff which is at a low altitude. The place does not allow any wheeled traffic; cars are present in the paid-for grounds that are located at the edge of the village. Apart from this if you do not want to face any chaos you can even book an underground space so as to have a smooth departure if it is snowing outside.
Avoriaz is situated on the prime lift circuit which is present on the Portes du Soleil. It is also linked to Châtel which is present in one direction and to Champéry in Switzerland on the other side. This place is linked to Morzine by gondola (not by piste), this also shares a distinct area of slopes which is with Les Gets. All these four resorts that are linked together have characteristics of their own, and Portes du Soleil pass covers them all. We can see that the hamlets of Les Prodains and Ardent are situated on the border of the Avoriaz ski area that has lifts within. Moreover, one can get car trips to reach Chamonix and Flaine.
This place has the Portes du Soleil circuit and offers several good slopes in the locality. The village has a very proper web design, and the place is car-free, that offer lodgings for Ski-in/Ski-out. This place also offers good facilities for those who wish to take their families along, as there are good arrangements for children. The place offers quite good snowing condition which is obviously must for snowboarders and skiers.
However, there are certain things that you won’t probably like such as the low altitudes and exposure to westerlies poor snow lower down, and obviously rain. Also the architecture of the place also quite not suits to everyone and the place also lacks a tidy delivery system. The place is quite a rush during the weekends and does not have an ample lot of hotels.
Talking about the most attractive things about the village is that it is quite a modern place. The village is quite angular, full of trees, dark, and has several buildings –especially apartments. This is not something which is called charming, but the best thing is that it is designed coherently.
