Val d’Isère is quite a famous commune situated in the Tarentaise Valley, in the Savoie department (Rhône-Alpes region) in the southeastern France. It is situated 5 km away from Italy’s border and lies on the border of the Vanoise National Park which was constructed in 1963. In 1992 Winter Olympics, men’s downhill race was held at the Face de Bellevarde. Apart from this, we have other alpine skiing events that were held here such as men’s giant slalom as well as alpine.

Val d’Isère has regularly served as hosts of alpine events of the World Cup, more often for men in December, and even the World Championships was hosted here in 2009. This place is situated in the Savoie région and offers ample lot of transport links that are present in and out of Lyon, Chambery, and Geneva. The ski region of Val d’Isère and Tignes are collectively known as the Espace Killy, which was named after Jean-Claude Killy who happens to be three times Olympic champion and he grew up there. Chalet area is one of the central attraction of the western and central region of Val d’Isère, while in the eastern area is famous for the high-rise architecture and this is the central attraction of the place.

Including the area of Tignes, the area comprises a part of “l’Espace Killy”, and is self-proclaimed “Most Beautiful Ski Area in the World”. The Pissaillas Glacier offers summer skiing, and not to forget the usual winter fare. Snow cannon is kept on a certain slope so as to make way for heavy skiing. The ski slopes are powered with a good volume of gondola, which is used to transport standing skiers.

This place offers groomed slopes as well as backcountry or off-piste skiing making it the best place for skiers of different skiing abilities. However, the difficulty levels of the slopes are quite high. For those who are not experienced skiers can go for skiing in Tignes as the place offers easily navigable pistes. Tignes also has the same, a funicular that shuttle’s skiers up through the mountains to the Grande Motte glacier. Moreover, a shuttle bus which is for free runs among the villages of the valley, this provides free transport in the town of Val d’Isère and La Daille.
