Destination guide: Sölden, Austria

Sölden is mostly know for the racing competitions, this is were the season starts for the world cup skiers. And most people here come her for the same kind of skiing…namely going in the pistes. You will see Germans, Austrians, Russians and some other folks going around with speedskiis, race poles and other things you dont care about. The Sölden village will not win any prices for its charm but its still real village with lots of hotels and restaurants.

The offpist is really good. With 3 summits on +3000 m its always possible to find good snow and plenty of runs. They forest below the first gondola is hugely underrated, the Glacier offers some nice runs and the backcountry from Gaislachkogel are spectacular. Sölden has a couple of drawbacks though: it requires quite a lot of snow and there are to many newly rich russians here. As a male skier you should know there are 3 stripclubs in town so you can avoid during night time.

Some of the runs requires a lot of skiing and it can be quite rocky from time to time. But the competition for the runs are quite low, there are plenty of runs and a village with lots of pleasures in. In short Sölden is a great place to go for offpist skiing!m.
